The original business problem

Extra Space Storage, one of the largest operators of self storage in the United States, asked SolutionStream to design and develop a mobile app that would provide a range of services for its customers.

Our approach

The UI team adapted desktop best practices to mobile, starting with wireframes, using the extra space on tablets and building responsive content to Extra Space's brand guidelines. Development connected the apps to Extra Space's existing online API.

Facility locations, contact info and live unit availability
Rental checkout, one-time payments and recurring autopay
Integrated maps and account management
Photos attached to units (for insurance and recall)
A new mobile version of the website

What it changed

Also, in 2025: AI training. Extra Space came back for AI enablement: a 2-day AI training for its React and .NET engineers plus 12 weeks of weekly group and one-on-one coaching on live sprint work; a master agreement for more training cohorts across technical and non-technical teams; and a Data Team AI training and coaching program with a 2-day bootcamp for revenue managers, analytics consultants and data science.
